La vida transcurre plácidamente en una megalópolis del siglo XXIII. Sus habitantes dedican la mayor parte del tiempo a gozar de los placeres de la vida y frecuentan tiendas en las que pueden cambiar de personalidad y aspecto físico, gracias a la cirugía plástica instantánea. Sin embargo, al cumplir los 30 años, deben morir. Logan, un policía encargado de cazar a los que huyen de la muerte, decide también rebelarse y huir hacia el desierto que rodea la ciudad.
